The first thing you will notice in the new update is the new set of animated icons. In the MIUI 12, the window expands right out of the app icon and shrink into the icon when you open or close an app. In addition to that, it also shows window launching and closing animations.

You will not see many changes to the status bar icons. The battery icon is updated and much cleaner now. You can choose the battery icon from among four different designs. Two designs also show battery percentage.

Animations in MIUI 12 are not just on the home screen and the control center. You can see this in different menus within Settings. The new animations can be found in the battery capacity and battery usage graphs, storage space indicator, etc.

Navigation gestures

New Control Center

MIUI 12 has a new Control Center looks very similar to the latest version of iOS. The color scheme used in the icons is quite similar to the iOS control center.

Floating windows

You will get floating windows in the new MIUI 12. This is inspired by a desktop and offer the same multi-window experience. Apps that support this feature can be opened in a floating window. This will be visible in a small section of the display with the app preview and can be opened on tap on top of other apps.

Forced dark mode

The forced dark mode is also a new feature in the MIUI 12. This provides an improved Dark Mode to certain apps. This is very similar to the feature on some Realme devices running ColorOS 6.

A few months ago, a cross-platform file-sharing platform was announced by manufacturers like Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo. On Xiaomi devices, this feature is called Mi Share.

With the new update, the app interface gets visually enhanced redesign.

New live wallpapers

The version comes with many new live wallpapers inspired by outer space. You can choose from the Earth or Mars live wallpaper in the setting as the background. At the lockscreen, you will get a closer look at the orbit of the planet.
